Manuel Bailo Esteve
Co-founder, BAILORULL add Arquitectura, Barcelona, Spain
Ph.D. Architect Associate Tenured Professor of Architecture, University of Virginia Research Bailo Esteve’s research explores how public space is activated by Urban Catalysts - energy and informal agents. The resulting dissertation, Urban Catalyst, has been published by Actar Publishers. Manuel Bailo Esteve has been teaching and lecturing at several different universities around the world (Harvard, Arizona Barcelona, etc are the last universities). Practice He founded BAILORULL in Barcelona in 1995 with Rosa Rull Their work includes a wide range of projects, moving from the urban scale to interior design. It has been fully published and awarded. Some examples include GardenHouse 0.96, Hotel Ciutat d’Igualada, and Façade-Steps Landscape of Manresa Town Hall, which was shown at On-Site: New Spanish Architecture, at the MoMA Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2006, and won the prestigious international Contractworld Award in Germany 2010. The firm also received the first “Annual Commercial Space Award” in China 2011 as well as a two-time winner of the prestigious Spanish FAD Award.
Jana Stachova
Partner, Boq Architekti, Czech Republic
Jana is a partner and a co-founder of the Prague based studio Boq architekti. The studio is engaged in various projects, especially in the area of residential housing, specializing in small spaces. In their designs, they address the issue of the lack of space while maintaining maximum user comfort. The studio has had successes in the domestic architecture scene, such as the nomination for the Czech Architecture Award 2019, Interior of the Year finalist, and international awards as well, for example, Young Architects Competitions finalist mention.
Thomas Hildebrand
Owner, HILDEBRAND, Switzerland
Thomas Hildebrand is the principal architect and owner of HILDEBRAND, which was established in 1999. Before graduating from the Architectural Association School in London, he had previously studied at the Fachhochschule Bern in Switzerland. He has lived and worked in England, Holland, Germany and the USA before opening his practice in Zurich. Hildebrand has taught at the ETH both in the architectural as well as in the urban design department between 1997 and 2006. The office has gained international recognition and has won numerous prizes and awards such as the German Design Award or the North American Wood Design Award. Thomas is a board member of the Architekturforum Zurich (AFZ) as well as the Zentrum Architektur Zurich (ZAZ).
