Hello sir/mam
I have registered for this competition.
These are my doubts:
1)the present maximum height of each tent is 6m. What should be the maximum height when go for 2levels.can I increase the height of tents like upto 12m??
2) the problem is also at urban level...can I design it at an urban level...if yes I would be requiring more resources to work at urban level... because the crowd management can be done at urban level...it cannot be done at individual site level....I think it can solved lot better when we work on urban level...I mean whole Mina as a site...
Thank you
Manzoor Ahmed
1. We increased the height limit to 10meters. You can now reduce or increase within this limit.
2. In the new update, instead of making it site based - we made it module based. So that while you adjust the module sizes you can also show various conditions or variations of how the module works in individual, collective, site and urban level. Although there are no hard expectations - but you can use these realms to explain your ideas for crowd management.
Hello Team UNi,
We have just participated in this competition and we have a question. In the brief, the size of the module is proposed to be 16X16X10. Does that size represent the dimensions of ONE TENT unit? In other words, should we design 1 living unit and I toilets unit and 1 multifunctional unit, using the proposed dimensions? What about the 8X8?
On another question, you are asking to respond on the urban scale through creating a sample group of tents, is there any limitations on the number of tents in 1 group? For example, the current groups are blocks for 6-8 tents, should we follow these numbers in grouping the proposed units?
Thanks.
1. 16X16X10m represents the maximum size of One tent unit, participants can modify and play with the size between 8x8m (standard module size) and 16x16x10m. However, the vision is to go beyond the standard module size to provide more per person area and better hygiene.
2. The tent city has to be designed with the three tent modules namely; Living, Multifunctional and toilet. These tents are to be designed for individual purposes like you mentioned; 1 living Unit, 1 multifunctional unit and 1 Toilet unit, no hybrid functions are expected in one tent design.
3. It is not compulsory to follow the existing numbers in groupings. You are free to interpret the group of units according to how your design decides to handle the site and crowd in the 5-day time frame. The design can go as large as the entire Hajj site.
Hello, we have a question during the uni project.
Q1. I wonder if we need to change the structure or appearance of the tent for the module solution, or if we only design the internal module while keeping the Haji tent as it is.
Q2. When I looked into the living module, there were several categories. There were various options from food to tent rental, should I consider all of them?
Hello,
1. Entire module is supposed to be reinvented. The existing Haji tents were a solution of the '90s. Quoting the organizing committee "The idea is to challenge the idea of the tent and think from a clean slate on what can be the best thing in the most rational basis that can be offered to the pilgrims". Hence you can change the structure of the tent completely and propose something entirely new.
2. Yes, you have to consider all the variants/categories mentioned in the brief for the living module and that should be enough. Although services/functions other than that are up to your interpretation and entirely optional.
A suggestion.
I just received the mail about this competition, but it is very late. My suggestion is that if I am supposed to receive e-mails regarding competitions, then please send it close to its launch. It's expensive and too late to join now, even though I really wanted to.
Hope you consider, thanks.

Hi Asim, I understand the email/information of the competition found you a bit late for The White Lands. The campaigns running take different methods and we are constantly reaching different people at various times - and it may be possible that the message reached you a little late. Nonetheless, if you'd wish to participate there are 50 more days to work on and that's ample time to solve this modular problem. If that still does not work for you, when you register on UNI you automatically subscribe to our newsletter and it will keep you in the loop for future opportunities like this.
Hi Kawar, we are still yet to receive a few scores from jurors and cannot process the results without these - We have been consistently trying since past 2 weeks to secure the scoring, but were unable to close the round due to some unforeseen professional engagements. We will take about 10 more business days more to announce the results. This information will be shared with all participants on the email.
Thanks!
