025S Bukchon Store By ATELIER KHJ: An Immersive Retail Interior Exploring Time, Memory, and Scent
025S Bukchon Store by ATELIER KHJ is an immersive retail space where scent, sound, time, and memory converge.
The 025S Bukchon Store, designed by ATELIER KHJ, is a carefully crafted retail interior in Seoul, South Korea, completed in 2024. With a compact area of 94 m², this second showroom for the Korean total scent brand 025S transforms the act of shopping into a deeply sensory and introspective experience. Rooted in the brand’s philosophy of “time” and “story,” the design introduces the concept of immersion as its central narrative, allowing visitors to engage with scent beyond the visual and commercial.

Architecture as a Medium for Sensory Storytelling
Rather than presenting products in a conventional retail format, the Bukchon store is conceived as a journey through perception, memory, and reflection. ATELIER KHJ expands on the personal narratives previously explored by 025S, designing a space where each visitor’s story continues to unfold through sensory engagement. The architecture becomes a medium that slows time, encouraging visitors to shift focus from sight to smell, sound, and emotion.
The restrained material palette, reflective glass surfaces, and controlled lighting establish a calm, meditative atmosphere. These elements work together to remove external distractions and heighten awareness of subtle sensory changes, reinforcing the brand’s identity as a time-based scent experience.

Three Stages of Immersion
The interior is organized into three sequential stages, each carefully choreographed to deepen immersion.
The first stage, “Sensory Transition,” begins at the entrance. Here, visitors are gently guided away from visual dominance toward olfactory perception. The spatial design encourages pause and attentiveness as guests sample fragrances, marking the transition from the outside world into the brand’s sensory realm.
The second stage, “The Process of Immersion,” is dedicated to deeper introspection. This space invites visitors to slow down and fully engage with scent while listening to specially composed music. Sound, scent, and spatial enclosure merge to create a multi-layered experience, allowing time and memory to surface organically.

Time for Reflection
A narrow Corridor of Immersion connects the second and third stages, acting as a threshold between experience and contemplation. This transitional passage heightens anticipation and prepares visitors for the final spatial moment.
The third stage, “Time for Reflection,” evokes the feeling of a private, cosmic space. Removed from commercial cues, this room offers an atmosphere of stillness and focus, where visitors can reflect on their sensory journey. The design emphasizes isolation, calm, and introspection—allowing scent to be experienced as a personal narrative rather than a product.

A New Model for Experiential Retail
The 025S Bukchon Store demonstrates how contemporary retail design can transcend functionality to become an experiential and emotional environment. Through spatial sequencing, sensory control, and narrative-driven design, ATELIER KHJ redefines the showroom as a place of immersion, memory, and personal storytelling.
More than a store, the project is an architectural expression of how interior design, scent, sound, and time can intersect—positioning 025S Bukchon as a refined example of immersive retail interiors in Seoul.
