Founded and hosted by the Dallas chapter of the American Institute of Architects, KRob has celebrated the best in architectural delineation for 50 years. A Dallas classic that has received international recognition, Named in honor of Ken Roberts a talented architect and illustrator involved in the early days of the competition, KRob honors hand, digital, and emerging- media delineation by professionals and students world-wide.
As the most senior architectural drawing competition currently in operation anywhere in the world, it draws hundreds of entries each year, awarding the very best submissions in series of medium-based categories. Each year a volunteer committee hosts a jury of reputable experts from architectural offices and schools who select a list of finalists from all entries and then, from that smaller set, deem less than a dozen exceptional pieces as category winners and juror citation recipients.
Architects and designers use architectural delineation to fuel their passion for design; it is a platform that allows them to express their ideas, explore new possibilities, and engage with the rich visual language of architecture. It can be a simple expression to share thoughts or a detailed rendering. It can be rudimentary or refined, physical or digital, adaptable to the media at hand. This is what makes KRob such a success. Delineation does not require extensive expertise or longevity in the profession, but skill, talent, and the ability to create an emotional connection with the viewer and the jury. This opportunity to win recognition for personal expression has continued to attract architects, designers, illustrators, and students from all over the world to the KRob competition for 50 consecutive years. KRob has become AIA Dallas’ international treasure.
