CHILD GAME
Episode 1 Berek Game
The project proposes the design for play structure in public space because this kind of increases indoor play video game and screen time has created an imbalance in the life of children. The project’s goal consists of 1) proposing a design guideline for a play structure according to Poland context. 2) proposing a design of Traditional Polish Games about transforming abstract to physical spaces.
The site location is on Park Sady Zoliborskie Warsaw, Poland. This park is a large green space for relaxation and many activities such as play for children, a field trip of school, seasonal picking fruits of Retirees, meeting area, and exercise. The area is surrounded by residential houses, Kindergarten, Elementary school, High school, and full facility. The site area is 693 square meters and the size of the structure is to not exceed 50 square meters.
The project method consists of 1) the project starts with a reading overview and guidelines to know the scope of this project. 2) analyzing the surrounding area and the site to find a suitable location that comes from site analysis 3) to find a real problem that increases indoor play video games in order to solve problems that the main problem is parents do not interact with their children because of activities, playground without potential 4) to create a concept as a guideline to prevent the work from falling out of the frame 5) to create 3 schematics are based on the key concept and then choose the most potential schematic to be continued to develop. The last, to develop the mass model and design until the final design. The design concepts are based on the berek(tag) game which is one of the most popular children’s games in the Traditional Polish Games and national games. The rule of the game: Children run around the play structure and one person calls “Berek” – has to catch another child make to become berek but If the child touches something made of wood, it will protect them from being caught consisting of column, blackboards, tree. The main idea of this game is circulation. It has a free circulation and children have to subset their parents consists of 1) Layer 1 is the waiting area of parents and playground of children. 2) Layer 2 and Layer 3 are the playgrounds of children. This play structure is not only for playing but also acts as a function for co-working space, meeting space, and organizing an event. It is always active.
The final result was a design for a play structure that promoted the design of Traditional Polish Games about transforming abstract to physical spaces by children are a subset of their parents. The character architecture consists of 1) The shape design starts with the key concept “circulation”. The circulation is a loop that comes from the child’s movement and the curve shape make it look not only smooth, friendly but also the safety for the children 2) Language color is the primary colors of learning for children; red is the circulation of children, blue is the circulation of children and waiting for the area for a parent, yellow is arch for penetrating through and white is encloser for activities. 3) the space has interactions between a child with a child and children with their parent. The play structure not only uses materials that are safe, strong, and harmless to children. but also uses the resources on the site as a component of this work by the design of the play structure must make of assembled parts consists of 1) casting concrete at the base 2) rubber mat floor in the part of the way children run on concrete 3) Fiberglass (blue, red, yellow, white) in the core activities and station activities that classified by language color. The last material that uses a big part in this game is wood. It will protect from being caught consisting of 1. column 2. blackboards 3. trees. The project hopefully will be useful for people interested in the play structure converted from a game. If the expansion plan for the future will make the play structure from a game of thinking to the next episode by showing outstanding game concepts.
