Craco Concert Hall
Music is liquid Architecture, Architecture is a Frozen Music - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Concept
Today, the building typology is changing to something cheaper & more functional. Unused buildings offer themselves as sites for self-sustaining activities. Reminiscing and re-experiencing the nostalgia of the past at the base of the Craco ruins we offer in this design. The concert area is the final function that connects the ruins and vast nature of Craco with humans. This project offers a unique physical and emotional experience of the space left in the space around us. The experiences offered are entirely in accordance with the specificity of each space. see a musical architecture in which the surfaces, materials, and forms of space speak directly and can be moved through an architecturally experiential sense
This project was developed with one simple idea, to let the space flow, to create the atmosphere and the present and the past in each atmosphere of the space, to create a new way of experience. The Craco concert hall becomes a source of sound in the area that is able to revive the old town of Craco through sound. The experience of space in a building involves the sounds created by human movement, concert performances and the building itself. The achievement of reaching the concert hall is greeted with the sound of split stones and the sound of iron that is created when visitors pass through the entrance, which is interpreted as a welcome and introduction of visitors to the old area. The sound of the trees being blown by the wind and the water on the building becomes a sound which is then heard which describes the natural sound of the old city of Craco. The performance area is placed on the top floor and is made open where in this area there is a joint interaction between the sounds of nature created and the human voice which produces a new sound that is harmonious and reawakens the atmosphere of city life in the past and spreads the sound throughout the craco area through sound. ).
Sound on site
1. the sound of stones due to footsteps
2. Steel sound
3. The sound of water and trees
4. Concert sound
5. The sound of echoes and wind in the steel aisle
Form Concept
The expression of the building is dominated by basic forms following the mass of the old city building of Craco with an arc shape as a reinforcement of the local Italian character. The expression of the building is made lightly upwards as a sign of appreciation for the old city which is located above. The areas are made semi-open so that visitors can still enjoy the atmosphere while carrying out activities on functions inside the building. the tower is placed as a utility function / water tower that functions as a water source in the building. This tower also indirectly acts as a marker and reinforcement of the character / expression of the building.
Material Concpet
The Craco concert hall uses several materials to create a welcoming yet modern feel. the use of stone material that resembles the original material of the city of craco is used to give the impression of harmony. The use of glass and corten steel materials are used to create a modern impression and amplify the sound created in the tread.
Design process
The process of processing the form from beginning to end is carried out through several processes. Conceptual ideas are written and discussed together until mutually agreed. Precedents are sought according to a mutually agreed concept. Modeling is done by experimenting with shapes until the shape that best fits the concept you want to address is chosen. Materials are selected through research conducted with a local and sound approach so that in the end the most appropriate material and according to function are selected.
Functions in buildings
Based on the studies that have been carried out, we have selected several suitable functions that are considered capable of accommodating the needs of users while simultaneously revitalizing the local economy. Complementary functions such as restaurants, galleries and restaurants are considered suitable for tourism functions. The restaurant and toilet area caters for the needs. The buildings are equipped with cantilevers as observation decks to enjoy the craco atmosphere. Project expansion can be carried out by utilizing land to the east of the building that can be used for certain functions.
