Design notes
Seventy percent of the world is the oceans
For an abandoned drilling rig, with the process of weathering the building over time, the skin and function depend on the attachment of the old building structure, which is the latest component to collapse. As an artificial island on the sea, it will also not escape the fate of being integrated by nature. Our original design intention is to build a new ecological drilling platform using the green ecology without dismantling the original exposed building framework, making the whole building an offshore "Eden". Exploring the connection between ecology and architecture is the main direction of our design. Based on the ecological perspective, this design captures the three aspects of ecological sustainability, resource recycling and the sense of maritime atmosphere.
This design is an abandoned drilling rig located in the waters of Ravenna, which serves as an area of agricultural convergence, with crops appearing everywhere. Agricultural development is deeply rooted in the hearts of the local people, and they choose to combine agriculture with ecology, break the model of conventional ecological building, and create greater value.
The design of the underwater part refers to the underwater greenhouse design of —— emo Garden of Italian undersea farm, breaking the single attribute of conventional building only building, using the water droplets on the inner wall of the condensing biosphere to maintain water, constant day and night temperature conditions, to design the underwater greenhouse for plant growth. Because 70% of the earth is the ocean, underwater greenhouse is a promising development of alternative agricultural projects, in the near future, technology updated again, can land some agriculture to the ocean, rational use of land and Marine resources, expand specifications, this is also one of the embodiment of drilling platform using agricultural profits. This design not only reflects the development of the combination of ecology and architecture, but also reflects that the design can meet the focus of self-sufficiency. Moreover, the underwater greenhouse can not only meet the needs of the drilling platform in the later stage, but also can be transported to the land to achieve economic benefits.
Therefore, in the design, double wharf and double laboratory design were selected, one for tourists entering the island and one for cargo transport and fishing. Underwater laboratory is used for the design and development of underwater greenhouse, and on water for fishery development and seafood production. Due to lavenna area of Marine fisheries is also worth mentioning, the design process we have fishing wharf, the design facilitates the operation of fishermen and transportation of goods, seafood fishing ashore, can transport at the fastest speed to the mainland, need to processing products can quickly through the fishery channel into the laboratory for processing.
The vertical greening design of the water building adopts the vertical greening design to make the drilling platform look like a sea forest from a distance after the transformation, and allows the plants to rotate and spread upward from the bottom of the building in the design process. According to the characteristics of the Mediterranean climate, the plants we choose are typical of the Mediterranean plants: olive trees, laurel, narcissus, tulips, figs, dates and other palm plants. These plants are widely useful, not only decorative in this single feature. For example, olive trees not only play a landscape role for the site when planted, but also can make olive oil for use or sale when they mature. Laurel has a long tradition in the sea cooking, and it is one of the spices.
The design concept of three-dimensional garden is to use all the site forms for greening layout, and at the same time, in the selection of green plants as far as possible to adopt extensive decorative plants, which can not only make the greening deep into it, but also realize the sustainable development of green and economy mentioned in the greenhouse in Shanghai.
Because the design structure revolves around the development of ecological agriculture, maritime forest, plant planting, ecosystem cultivation, greening and other means are used in the design. In addition, the production and sale of agricultural products can not only restore the scars brought by industrial relics, but also create economic value. When countless ships shuttle in this sea area, it will not only bring about ecological harm, but also create greater benefits for the contemporary human society. In a long-term plan, perhaps in the future, this is no longer an abandoned drilling platform, but an offshore farm with ecology, history and architecture, which will be connected with the mainland, food will feed the earth, and practice the concept of global ecological sustainable development. And these will be recorded in the Ocean Museum, writing this great history to the people of the future.
Seventy percent of the world is the oceans, and allowing the drilling platform 7km off the coast to have a sustainable development ecology with the concept of self-sufficiency and economic outlook will be the future direction.
