DS House by Wahana Architects – A Harmonious Blend of Nature and Modern Living in Jakarta
DS House by Wahana Architects in Jakarta integrates lush greenery, open-plan interiors, woven façades, and rooftop gardens, blending nature with modern living.
Located in the vibrant city of Jakarta, Indonesia, DS House, designed by Wahana Architects, is a stunning 460 m² residence completed in 2022 that seamlessly fuses modern architecture with lush natural surroundings. Led by Rudy Kelana, the project demonstrates a thoughtful approach to integrating indoor and outdoor living, creating a tranquil oasis amidst the bustling urban environment. Photographed by Ernest Theofilus, the home’s design emphasizes openness, natural light, and the therapeutic presence of greenery throughout.

Nature-Driven Exterior Design
The exterior of DS House is immediately captivating, surrounded by abundant greenery that softens the building’s modern lines. A woven façade, featuring intricate patterns, adds depth and elegance while functioning as a visual filter, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy glimpses of the vibrant garden from inside. The combination of texture, light, and shadow enhances the building’s dramatic aesthetic, making it a serene retreat in Jakarta’s dynamic urban fabric.

Open Concept Interiors with Garden Views
Inside, the house embraces an open-plan layout, particularly on the second floor, where the living room, dining area, and pantry seamlessly flow together. Expansive windows frame panoramic views of the surrounding garden, inviting natural light to flood every corner. This thoughtful design ensures that the vibrant colors and textures of the plants are ever-present, creating a calming and harmonious atmosphere throughout the home.

Private Retreats on the Upper Floors
The third-floor private quarters prioritize comfort and connection with nature. The master bedroom features a balcony adorned with woven materials, offering a cozy space to enjoy morning coffee while overlooking the lush garden below. Each bedroom is designed to provide unobstructed views of greenery, ensuring children and adults alike awaken to the serenity of nature every day.

Rooftop Garden and Multifunctional Outdoor Spaces
DS House continues its natural integration on the top floor with a rooftop garden, a verdant sanctuary designed with a variety of plants and textures. Adjacent to this green retreat is a semi-outdoor multifunctional area, enclosed with woven elements, which can be used year-round for relaxation, work, or social gatherings. This design blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor living, allowing residents to fully experience nature in any season.

Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Harmony
Every aspect of DS House reflects Wahana Architects’ commitment to nature-centric design. Each room offers visual access to greenery, fostering a sense of calm and well-being. The thoughtful placement of windows, balconies, and woven enclosures ensures that residents remain connected to the natural environment, creating a holistic living experience where architecture and landscape exist in perfect harmony.
