Iterare Arquitectos Nests a New White House Inside an Old Brick Shell on a Torrefiel Corner in Valencia

Torrefiel is not where you go looking for architectural heritage. The neighborhood on Valencia's northern edge is mostly modest housing, and much of it has already been replaced by taller residential blocks. On one corner plot, a small brick house with lime mortar and a carved stucco cornice had survived. Local regulations allowed it to be demolished and replaced. The owners and Iterare arquitectos decided to keep it, and that decision is the most interesting thing about Casa Nido.

The name translates as "Nesting House," and the concept is literal. The old perimeter walls stay in place as a base, and a new contemporary dwelling of about 100 m² sits inside them, rising above the cornice as a white volume. We think the project matters less as a formal gesture than as an argument. It shows that the scarce, unlisted fabric of a peripheral neighborhood can carry a new house, and that the courtyard, not the floor area, is the real luxury on a tight urban plot.

A Corner That Refused Demolition

From the street, the stacking is plain to see. Brick and plaster sit below, and a smooth white box sits above with no attempt to imitate what is underneath. The taller apartment blocks behind it give a sense of what usually happens to plots like this one: the old house goes and a mid-rise replaces it.

Iterare's move keeps the corner at its original human scale where it meets the pavement. The new height is pushed upward and back, so it reads as a second layer and not as a replacement. The white volume is quiet enough to let the old facade stay in the foreground, and that restraint is deliberate.
