MimMim Villa: A Unique Coastal Retreat by On Architects Inc.
MimMim Villa by On Architects Inc. is a unique coastal retreat featuring seven architectural "islands" blending nature and modern design.
Introduction to MimMim Villa
Located in Ulju-gun, South Korea, MimMim Villa by On Architects Inc. is a unique pool villa designed to bring new life to the scenic but lesser-known Jinha Beach. By offering an exclusive, self-contained experience, MimMim Villa aims to attract visitors looking for a private escape while revitalizing the beach’s aging landscape.

About the Design and Architecture
Architectural Vision for MimMim Villa
The MimMim Villa project was conceived to create a retreat that harmonizes with Jinha Beach’s natural beauty without disturbing it. Rather than a standard resort destination, the villa was envisioned as an “architectural device” that integrates into the coastal scenery, providing visitors with a serene connection to nature.

Creating Seven Unique "Islands"
Inspired by the surrounding landscape, MimMim Villa’s architecture presents seven independent “islands” arranged to maximize views of Jinha Beach’s coastline and a nearby forested island. These “islands” function as private spaces, offering visitors secluded areas that reflect the natural cycles of the environment, enhanced by carefully designed light and water reflections.

A Minimalist Design Approach
The villa’s core layout uses simple, 11-meter square shapes with open interspaces to create privacy and tranquility. Inside, each of the seven square units features walls that enclose a private swimming pool and an indoor space made of glass, simulating the idea of an “inner island.”

Structural Elements of MimMim Villa
Unique Structural Composition
The design of MimMim Villa eliminates traditional column and wall structures, focusing on freestanding vertical walls that support the entire building. This creates a grid-like spatial arrangement, where independent spaces blend with natural light through skylights above.

Use of Natural Lighting and Shadow
Skylights above the villa allow natural light to filter through, creating dynamic shadow patterns on the walls and pools, which change as the day progresses. These light effects connect different sections of the villa into a cohesive experience, symbolizing the flow of time and enhancing guests’ connection with nature.

Interior and Exterior Features
Private Swimming Pools and Interiors
Within each square unit, a 2-meter interspace surrounds a glass-enclosed indoor area. This space contains essential amenities, including a utility room, toilet, and shower, while an open roof structure offers a direct view of the sky.

MimMim Villa as a Tranquil Coastal Retreat
MimMim Villa’s design creates a peaceful and private atmosphere, inviting guests to enjoy Jinha Beach in a way that enhances their connection to the environment. The villa’s integration with nature, paired with modern luxury, makes it an ideal escape from everyday life.

MimMim Villa’s Impact on Jinha Beach
MimMim Villa by On Architects Inc. redefines coastal hospitality architecture in South Korea, transforming Jinha Beach into an attractive destination through a design that respects and revitalizes its natural surroundings. This villa offers a unique, immersive experience that aligns with the rhythms of the sea, sun, and sky, making it a truly one-of-a-kind retreat.
