Problem Background

The Bahareya Oasis faces imminent threats from climate change, jeopardizing its rich cultural and ecological heritage. Rising temperatures, shifting landscapes, and diminishing resources demand immediate attention. Temperatures have risen by 1°C since 1960, with a further 2–3°C rise by 2050. There is a potential 20% decline in rainfall by 2050, leading to droughts. 10,000 Roman and Greek mummies, between 332 B.C.E. to 395 A.D., are in danger and desertification rates reached 14% of total land area in Egypt. The lack of awareness and understanding regarding these issues exacerbates the challenges. The Oasis requires a platform to communicate the urgency of climate action, fostering a sense of responsibility and encouraging sustainable practices.

Vission

Creating a transformative museum experience that transcends conventional boundaries, where visitors are confronted with the harsh realities of climate change, and inspired to envision a sustainable future through an emotional and intellectual journey. It serves as a beacon, illuminating the path towards ecological resilience and cultural preservation.

Mission

The museum seeks to merge technology, storytelling, and sensory design to immerse visitors in the evolving story of the Bahariya Oasis. By revealing the intersection of heritage and climate change through interactive experiences, it fosters awareness, empathy, and action toward sustainable living and cultural preservation.

Concept

The Fourth Lake: A Mirage Museum exploring the fluid boundaries of past and future in the face of climate change. It aims to educate visitors on the impact of climate change on the oasis, emphasizing the urgency for sustainable practices.
