Transforming an extension of an old house into a serene, contemporary retreat, the architects reimagined the 145 m² residence as a peaceful escape that blends modern comfort with local heritage. The renovation’s primary goal was to create a tranquil and private sanctuary that echoes Batroun’s cultural essence. The architects sought to merge the city’s historical atmosphere with modern spatial clarity, offering a home that captures the client’s vision of comfort while honoring the site’s original character. The strategy was rooted in designing a harmonious environment where light, materiality, and spatial fluidity come together to shape a deeply personalized living experience.

Arrival Sequence and Garden Integration

Approaching the residence from the road, visitors are welcomed by a lush garden curated with carefully selected plants that thrive in natural Mediterranean light. This exterior landscape acts as a soft threshold between the busy city and the home’s calming interior palette. The garden’s earthy tones seamlessly transition into the loft through an arched doorway, introducing the warm ambiance and tactile materials that define the interior.

Earthy Interiors and Local Craftsmanship

Stepping inside, the main living area opens into a warm, textured space unified by local cedar wood, soft lighting, and an earthy color scheme that mirrors Batroun’s architectural tradition. The design celebrates Lebanon’s vernacular materials, emphasizing natural tones and organic textures. Every corner of the living space reflects a carefully curated balance of contemporary refinement and regional heritage. The open layout enhances natural light distribution and highlights the handcrafted details found in furniture, shelving, and custom-built elements.

Fluid Spatial Planning and Privacy Options

A glass opening reveals the illuminated wine storage below, creating a dramatic focal point and a unique architectural experience.
