The Chicken Coop by Arnau estudi d’arquitectura – Adaptive Reuse and Cozy Office Interior in Olot, Spain
The Chicken Coop by Arnau estudi d’arquitectura transforms a rustic space in Olot into a light-filled, nature-inspired, sustainable creative office.
Located in the serene landscape of Olot, Spain, The Chicken Coop by Arnau estudi d’arquitectura transforms a humble, rustic structure into a warm, inspiring workspace. Completed in 2021, this 51 m² adaptive reuse project captures the essence of nature while respecting the building’s original character. Designed by lead architect Arnau Vergés, the project celebrates simplicity, natural light, and the connection between interior and exterior spaces.

The original chicken coop, nestled among green forests and seasonal gardens, inspired a design that honors its historical charm while creating a functional office and creative environment. The interior features exposed beams, natural wood finishes, and large windows that frame picturesque views of roe deer, green woodpeckers, and the vibrant garden below. This integration of nature and architecture brings the outside in, offering a calm, meditative environment ideal for creative work.

Inside, reclaimed and recycled materials define the aesthetic. The wooden floors, recycled paper sketches, and colorful textiles add warmth and personality. The threshing floor bench, kitchen corner, and dining table are thoughtfully arranged for both productivity and leisure, allowing occupants to observe the changing seasons and immerse themselves in the rural landscape. Natural light filters through carefully placed windows, highlighting textures and enhancing the sense of openness in the small yet functional office.

The design emphasizes sustainable living, adaptive reuse, and low-impact architecture, making it a perfect example of how even modest spaces can offer joy, inspiration, and connection to nature. The Chicken Coop is not just a workspace; it’s a microcosm of life, observation, and creativity, blending architectural ingenuity with poetic reflection.
