Triangle House Tainan by Metrics Architecture Studio transforms an irregular triangular site in the historic core of Tainan City, Taiwan into a finely calibrated 128 square meter family residence completed in 2025. Positioned between a quiet neighborhood fabric and an emerging commercial development, the project mediates past and future through carefully scaled massing, passive climatic strategies suited to southern Taiwan, and a luminous interior stair hall crowned by a skylight that draws light deep into the plan. Rather than assert monumentality, the house folds contemporary concrete and wood construction into the low-rise rhythm that defines Tainan’s older urban streets.

Tainan, one of Taiwan’s earliest developed cities, retains an intimate grain of narrow streets, modest parcel widths, and low-rise dwellings layered across generations. The project lot—an acute triangle caught between established residential edges and land poised for commercial growth—demanded a form that could reconcile competing orientations while preserving privacy.
