Vertical Oasis House – HYLA Architects | Singapore Residential Design
Vertical Oasis House by HYLA Architects in Singapore features a private vertical courtyard, double-volume living, pools, and a serene, modern urban oasis.
A Modern Oasis in the Heart of Singapore
Vertical Oasis House by HYLA Architects reimagines the typical landed house in Singapore, creating a private, serene, and naturally ventilated retreat. Situated on a standard 445 m² plot, the house faces a road, which initially presented privacy challenges. To address this, the architects designed a vertical courtyard between the house and its neighboring property, ensuring all main spaces have views of this secluded green heart.

Design & Spatial Experience
At the ground level, the home features two swimming pools, a koi pond beneath a skylit trellis, and an outdoor pool seamlessly integrated into the courtyard. The double-volume living and dining areas open directly onto this courtyard through large sliding and folding glass doors, allowing an indoor-outdoor connection while maintaining privacy.
The courtyard is topped with a glass roof and anodized aluminum trellis, filtering sunlight, shielding from rain, and creating a breezy, sheltered space. This carefully crafted environment transforms the home into a true urban oasis, offering comfort, privacy, and a peaceful retreat for family and guests alike.

Redefining Singapore’s Residential Typology
Vertical Oasis House demonstrates how a conventional landed house can harmonize with its environment. The design balances openness and privacy, integrating natural light, ventilation, and greenery while maintaining the functional requirements of a modern home, including six bedrooms and contemporary living spaces.

As the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines an oasis as “something that provides refuge, relief, or pleasant contrast,” HYLA Architects proves that a Singaporean home can embody all three — a sanctuary amidst urban life.
