FULL MOON AIRPORT
Koh Phangan Airport, Thailand: The main concept behind the airport is to capture the beauty of the island of Koh Phangan. To show this beauty in the best possible light, we positioned the airport in the form of a full circle between land and sea. As such, it encloses the water, forests and beaches.

The landing strip runs through the middle of the circle and gives the passengers a spectacular view of the island when landing over water. The circle is visible from the air and serves as a symbol for the full moon party – the island’s main attraction.
Panel 1
The airport forms a circle that connects land and sea. It forms an enclosed garden that encompasses the full and beautiful nature of this island. All of the airport’s functions are located within this circle. The main building itself is positioned partly over water.
Panel 2
The top of the circle has been made into a boardwalk where people can enjoy views of the sea and beaches. There are three slopes on the inner edge of the circle, giving access to landscape within and the interior of the airport. The landing strip runs down the centre of the circle.
Panel 3
The circle dips at the points where the landing strip touches the surface, creating the effect of both elements being detached from one other. The landing strip runs from the sea onto the mainland over a total distance of 1 kilometre. This gives visitors a unique experience of landing on water.
Panel 4
Not only does the circular building function as an airport and place of leisure, it also serves as a dock for boat traffic. Users can arrive by boat to then take the plane. Combining different modes of transportation enhances mobility on the island.
