About Discussions Projects32 Journals7 Competitions1

Dorm design addresses the specific needs of student populations and shared residential communities. Projects in this topic explore how spatial planning, material choices, and architectural interventions create functional and livable environments for temporary or transitional housing.

The community examines dormitory design across diverse contexts and scales, from adaptive reuse of existing structures to new construction in varied climates and geographies. Work ranges from therapeutic and wellness-focused approaches to multi-generational co-living models and culturally responsive housing solutions.

Marine Laboratory Housing

Due to the requirements of the course, some students have to do their research the whole day on the ocean. However, there is no field to do some research on and the lack of marine facilities now. We select the site nearby the university and the student dormitory facility cooperates with the marine biology courses of the universities.

Decussate Dorm

Turning a house for two into a Dormitory for six. Many elders in Taipei are living alone in a big house, lack of caring. So we decided to change the elders' house into a dormitory for exchange-students outside the university. Sharing experiences and take care of each other under the same roof.

Between Alleys

Every street child is like a small floating individual. They are separated from their original families and scattered in the corners of the city. We hope to bring these individuals together and unite them. Several individuals can form a small and warm family . These small families gradually expand and evolve into a bigger safe society.

COME WITH THE LIGHT

We think the shelter for stray students needs enough comfort and children to feel the companionship of friends, so public space will be necessary. While the basic functions are satisfied, we need to think about how to provide more fun to buildings.
