The Black Taj - Mirage Gate - EAYE23
We propose a gate which is common in the city of Agra to express the legend of the Black Taj Mahal and complete this legend. To express the legend, we imagine something "phenomenal", "changing" and "elusive" like the shadow from a vision or the darkness from black. We consider that these images match Agra where something always moves.
Undergraduate Portfolio
Hi, I am a fourth-year undergraduate architecture student. For me Architecture is a lot more than just buildings, It’s a way of living and expressing oneself. The Black Taj - Indefinite Love - DGZT97
Our design proposal intends to honor Mughal history and ensure its legacy transcends over time. Our design aims to subtly capture the spirit of the Black Taj. Whether the Black Taj was meant to be, or not meant to be; is left for an individual decipher; but Shah Jahan, Mumtaz and their love was certainly meant to transcend over time.
The Black Taj - Journey through the Tesseract
The principle notion has been oriented around an existing well. The entire biography of Shah Jahan will be introduced through a journey, leading downward creating the then Mughal environment through lights and sounds. Nine phases of Shah Jahan's life would be narrated in this journey and each phase will be exaggerated with their artifacts.

The Black Taj - Kinesthetics of the ruins - YMVG39
The Black Taj or the 'Azal' as we've named it, is not black literally but by virtue of what it stands for. It actually got an equal intensity of emotion as the Taj but from the other end of the spectrum. If Taj stood for love and its purity, Azal stood for hate that it got from the very one whom it was meant for - Shah Jahan.
THE BLACK TAJ - AFTERGLOW - JOZT43
"The concept of immortality is askew. To live beyond time is more than a dream." As the design phase for the Black Taj began, the focus was on creating more than a static monument to the Mughal legacy. The structure had to be an organism of functions at the heart of Agra.
The Black Taj - The exemplar of Mughal architecture - GACB87
By responding to the Taj, we intend to enhance the beauty of it. This metaphoric approach is envisaged to make people think repeatedly, eventually unfolding different layers of history each time; which will give this built space its timeless quality.
The Black Taj - Presence in Absence - GPPB50
The intervention attempts to celebrate Taj Mahal as an epitome of an architectural poetry and physical manifestation of a soulful proposition of the mighty builder Shah Jahan. The obsessive insistence in refining the space that is bold yet calm, as a force that is able to penetrate and reveal the mystery of the human condition.
THE BLACK TAJ - ZWEE40
Memories flash backed, broken links joined down, time being twisted with cons of Mughals on showcase is what someone would feel after lingering in and around the BLACK TAJ. The traditional Mughal architecture influencing and thus responding to its context acts as the core of this design intervention [with modern materials and techniques erecting it.
The Black Taj - The Black Bagh - KJVN21
The Black Taj; is constructed with no ordinary material. Stories from lovers, imaginations of enthusiasts, words of the people which is reflected into the Yamuna brings the Black Taj into existence. An existence which has a poetic essence to itself. An essence which is shared with the Taj Mahal.
The Black Taj - DRKD47
Interpreting beyond love toward his wife, Shah Jahan protects the region of Agra in a multidimensional matter in time, scale, and systems. Our design is "embracement", a story extending the legend of Shah Jahan beyond love toward his wife, toward the people, and the surrounding environment.
The Black Taj - Appropriating the Taj
The proposition chosen here is to deconstruct the Taj Mahal in order to understand the perfect ensemble of Indo-Islamic Architecture. The proposal highlights the underlying principles of the Taj which is influenced by both Hindu and Islamic architecture and how the collaboration of the two cultures has achieved perfection of both form and aesthetics.
THE BLACK TAJ - MEMNTO FOR SHAH JAHAN - DIFI54
Our design orchestrates a memento for Shah Jahan 'Builder of Marvels' where the most timeless material 'Light' has been used to create different abstractions & ambience of "Black Taj" (through shade, Total internal reflections on all sides of the cube by the materiality of glass) at the core of an optically corrected glass cube...
Great Keep it up.
