Slumscraper
Architecture and design interventions in informal settlements and working-class urban neighborhoods.
Slumscrapers represent a design approach that engages with informal settlements and economically disadvantaged urban areas. Rather than demolition or displacement, this work explores adaptive reuse, community-centered development, and architectural strategies that serve low-income populations.
The community examines projects ranging from container housing in Mumbai's Dharavi to social housing integrated into European cities, alongside theoretical explorations of commodification, labor, and urban equity. Work includes conversions of existing structures into mixed-use spaces, eco-friendly housing solutions for urban poor communities, and architectural interventions that prioritize inhabitant needs over market-driven development.
