Vacant Land
Design and architectural interventions on underutilized, abandoned, or transitional land and spaces.
Vacant land presents designers and architects with opportunities to reconsider how communities use and inhabit overlooked spaces. These projects explore strategies for activating, transforming, or reinterpreting sites that have been left empty or underutilized.
The community examines diverse approaches to vacant terrain: reclaiming post-industrial landscapes, inserting new programs into in-between urban spaces, creating interventions at archaeological sites, and reimagining dense neighborhoods through thoughtful spatial design. Work ranges from large-scale landscape recovery to intimate courtyard insertions and temporary installations.
