0WinnerOver the Edge. Arctic habitatThe main task of the architect when designing in extreme conditions is to achieve the most competent adaptation of the object to the environment. In this project of the Arctic settlement "over the edge", an experimental decision was made to place the object on a slope, which as a result allowed to create a lot of interesting solutions.
10Runner-upLIFE LINEThe "LINE OF LIFE" project represents a new environment - comfortable, unified and environmentally friendly. It is a living organism that grows, develops and gives new life! These are new opportunities to make the world a better place and take care of nature. BUT we have to do it together! This is our chance to fix it.
211People's Choice AwardHabitatNowHelicom habitat responds to a number of problems defined by the climate and geographical location of Arctic.
5ARRIVALProject Arrival about life without borders. People living in extreme climates should feel the same as usual, should receive the same services and have the same functions, have freedom of choice and the ability to fulfill their desires. The basic concept is the creation of an autonomous habitat capable of living and developing independently.
8SCIENHIVEThe research complex consists of all the necessary functions for survival in the harsh Arctic climate. Designing this kind of architecture will provide an opportunity for further sustainable development of the Arctic.
4HermetiCityThe proposal envisions an hermetic vertical city which can provide the basic needs for human life to take place in the Arctic. Growing vertically instead of horizontally saves resources and energy, it also reduces the impact on the surrounding ecosystem since all the activities are concentrated and share the same core.
11Underglass oceanAn indoor city has no constraints to its development, moreover, it meets all needs concerning a full, integral life. The modular structure enables perpetual changes in the organization of the city. An underground transportation system alleviates soul-crushing urban congestion and facilitates safe high-speed travel without polluting the environment.
5THE SEAMHabitat is not designed as an object, but as part of the context. With the effect of global warming, glaciers also form large crevices. With the movable structure, the space settles between these slits and prevents the glaciers from separating from each other and freezes the water used to form insulation material on the wall and cools the glaciers.
4City in the ArcticSince human presence in an aggressive environment should be limited, it is necessary to create conditions for long-term stay of people inside the building. To do this, we offer to place inside the building: residential modules, offices, recreation area and facilities for the development of children and other premises.
4Cryo VillageA habitat based on Inuit culture combined with the needs of new-age technology to create a Utopian environment in the extreme conditions of the arctic. This habitat uses recyclable 3D printing methods to create the overall structure and an adaptable facade to combat potential climate change and make the most of the available resources.
7Arctic SecondsThe world is changing in alarming rate,so we must change well-known standards of architecture. Arctic in addition to climat changes and warming happening twice as fast as the global average definitely expect new understanding of building-how can architecture provide more than a temperature controlled environment that allows surviving in such extreme condit
172City A.Q.U.A.Welcome to City A.Q.U.A, a habitat built by water refugees of the world. In a warming world - where polar icecaps are melting on one end & water is sparse on the other, Can the water refugees of today survive against the odds and build a life in the extremities of the Arctic? Come celebrate Christmas in the city of water refugees and experience their life.
3Modular extreme habitatAn extreme habitat project is a pattern of repeating houses in a specific sequence. Development proceeds from the core and using the fractal method, with a set of several patterns, the centricity disappears due to the appearance of new cells. Difficult conditions and a small number of residents will leed to development of society with deep internal ties
4URSA MAJORUrsa Major is a settlement making an extremely hostile terrain habitable for humans. Large domes protect the inhabitants from the harsh climate, while still providing daylight and open spaces. Thanks to various modern technologies this settlement is completely neutral serving as an example of modern sustainable design for a brighter future.
34Hoberman DomeThe concept habitat in Arctic is inspired by the works of Chuck Hoberman, who patented the isokinetic structure. One of these works is the Hoberman Sphere, which formed the basis of the concept.
5MULTI FUNCTIONAL NORTH HOUSEThe arctic station is located on an island in northern Canada. Its area covers 800 x 800 m and is intended for 1000 people. The station has been designed to consist of modular parts that can be repeated. he station consists of residential modules, modules designed for work as well as sports and recreation.
29Water PodsThis project is catering to the extreme habitat challenge by using the materials and resources available in the region along with a very different and innovative technology for sustaining and further developing the habitat for future expansions.
3Arctic GardensA design concept of habitat within area of 800 m x 800 m, which is able to accommodate 1,000 people. The prototype habitat is able to house all the three elements of human life in it - Live, Work and Play.
1LoopLineThe LoopLine is a project that pretension the Arctic?s context to be undefined with climate change. In the future, there is no ground identified by this project for architecture. While LoopLine aims to be completely independent of the context, it also creates a horizontally rising porous and transparent structure that will affect the context to minimally.
4GlacierScraperGlacierscraper is a building that can adapt a extreme habitat. It is a project that designs the city above without further contact with the melting land due to global warming. It is a design that includes the city first by reversing the known city, first with houses and then with programs and topography at the top.
