Jan-Willem Baijense

Associate and business director, Cie. International, Amsterdam

Jan-Willem Baijense completed his studies at the Eindhoven University of Technology and Berlin with a focus on gaining skills to achieve maximum performance within the frameworks. c Organizing urban areas is becoming increasingly important with the continuous expansion of cities. When a building is designed in such a way that it is consistent with everything connected with it, architecture can improve and strengthen the existing urban fabric. From masterplan to the living room, Baijense works at every scale level. A milestone in his career was Block A5 in Seoul, a completely new district that developed into a full-fledged city neighborhood. The knowledge about housing in high densities gained in Korea could then be applied in Russia at Vander Park in Moscow and in the Netherlands at the Pontkade NDSM project in Amsterdam.

Shortly after graduating in 2003 he moved to Sri Lanka to study Geoffrey Bawa's architecture. In 2006 he moved to Mumbai to set up Architecture BRIO with Shefali Balwani.
