2The Collectives CommuneThe collective commune is space which focuses on the sense of belonging. Questioning my belonging as an immigrant of Australia whilst Australia moves towards Multicultural country/Global Australia. A place of belonging is being represented under one roof that formulates oneness as the indigenous knowing and belonging to land through ancestral Dreaming.
6The GatheringThe Gathering is about bringing the stories of people back to the forefront in learning to be tolerant in conflict, though deepened understanding and acceptance. Perceived as a gallery without walls, visitors absorb the idea of human evolution through spaces enabling the exchange of knowledge to occur.
9BirdWalk - Kakadu National Park Tourism Village'BirdWalk' is a circular ramp between trees and birds of Kakadu. This walk starts on the Village entry and gets to the top of the trees to have sunset and sunrise views. This is also a 'TimeWalk' since you can read about Australia and its history on your way up. This allows a multipurpose community space in the center for gatherings and creative activities.
12Common GroundDesigning something new in an ancient place, where geology, nature, history and tradition are neighbours, is not an easy task and requires a unique approach. The title 'Common Ground' comes from the idea of 'everyone's place'. The word for 'everyone' in the Aboriginal dictionary is 'Rowk' and 'Kunrorre' meaning 'ground'.
2Kakadu Cultural CenterThe concept behind the design as one that is contextually sensitive to the natural surrounding topography, mimicking the angles and proportions of the surrounding natural rock formations. Ancient aboriginal symbols are re-purposed in the courtyard chasm of rough-stone clad megalithic walls.
13We Australia, back to the futureThe main challenge is not to label Australia to remain in mind. Rather, in this project, we intend to represent Australia as a suggestion of existing to the audience.
