A Monument to Marble

The Structural Marvel

At the heart of the EU-02X Pavilion are three colossal marble blocks, each weighing between 20-27 tons. These blocks serve a dual purpose: they are both the foundation that supports the pavilion's canopy and a live exhibition of the marble itself, featuring varieties such as Botticino, Arabescato, and Breccia.

A Landscape of Marble

Beneath the sweeping canopy, visitors find a terrain created from squarish stone pieces, offering spaces to sit, relax, and immerse in the material's natural beauty. This setup encourages a closer inspection of the marble, inviting visitors to appreciate its texture, veins, and the way light plays across its surfaces.

Reimagining Pavilion Design

Beyond Traditional Structures

The EU-02X Pavilion challenges conventional pavilion designs typically seen at marble fairs. By integrating the structural and the showcase elements, the pavilion turns the marble blocks into a bold statement of both form and function, allowing the material itself to take center stage.

An Exploration of Light and Texture

The design intentionally plays with the dimensions and forms of the marble to explore its aesthetic qualities under varying lighting conditions and perspectives. This approach not only showcases the versatility of marble as a material but also transforms the pavilion into a dynamic space that changes with the movement of the sun.

Commissioned by Euro Mas Srl for Marmomac 2022, the EU-02X Pavilion by (ab)NORMAL is a pioneering project in the realm of marble pavilion design. By reinterpreting traditional structures and placing emphasis on the intrinsic beauty of marble, the pavilion stands as a significant contribution to architectural innovation, merging functionality with artistry in the picturesque setting of Verona.
