Innovative Urban House Design in Dense Areas: The D House by studiokian
This article explores the D House by studiokian, a model of innovative urban house design optimized for dense living spaces.
In the heart of West Jakarta, Indonesia, the D House stands as a testament to innovative urban house design in dense areas. Designed by the acclaimed architects at studiokian, this 300 m² masterpiece showcases how creativity and strategic planning can transform a compact space into a luxurious, light-filled home.

Overcoming Challenges with Smart Design
The Spatial Strategy of D House
Facing the challenge of a narrow road and close proximity to neighbors, D House leverages the concept of "compress and release" in its spatial design. The entrance leads into a low-ceilinged, muted foyer, creating a sense of anticipation that unfolds into expansive, light-filled areas as one ascends to the main living spaces.

Maximizing Space and Light
On the first floor, functional areas such as the car garage, service area, and guest bedroom are strategically placed. The second floor opens up to public spaces like the living room and dining area, directly connecting with nature and outdoor gathering spots to create a secluded oasis. The bedrooms, situated on the third floor, offer privacy and tranquility away from the communal areas.

Architectural Features and Material Selection
The Use of Glass Blocks for Privacy and Light
A standout feature of D House is its use of glass blocks, both in the facade and the praying room's ceiling. This choice ensures privacy from the closely situated neighbors while diffusing natural light throughout the home, highlighting the architects' attention to detail and their innovative approach to urban house design in dense areas.

Creating a Flow for Gatherings
The architectural flow of D House is meticulously planned to facilitate gatherings. A high-ceilinged praying/gathering room serves as the heart of the home, with semi-outdoor terraces extending the living space. This seamless transition between indoor and outdoor areas exemplifies the modern urban house's adaptability to social functions.

A Model for Urban House Design
D House by studiokian is more than a residence; it's a blueprint for urban house design in dense areas. Its ingenious use of space, light, and materials offers solutions for the challenges of urban living, making it a source of inspiration for architects and homeowners alike.
