Architectural Overview of In Between Gardens Residence
Context and Design Challenges
Situated on a 4200 m² corner plot in a newly developed area of Tiptur, the residence is designed with privacy and security in mind, using local materials and landscaping to create a protective yet inviting environment. The design tackles the lack of immediate architectural context by constructing a self-contained oasis.

Strategic Use of Space and Material
The residence features a robust black granite stone wall sourced from nearby quarries, enveloping the property and setting a fortress-like aesthetic that is both functional and visually striking. This boundary wall not only ensures privacy but also acts as a buffer against future developments, maintaining the integrity of the home’s tranquil setting.

Key Features of In Between Gardens Residence
The Concept of Katte in Modern Design
Drawing inspiration from the traditional "katte" found in the old town of Tiptur—verandas that foster community interactions—the residence incorporates staggered, interconnected courtyards that serve as semi-public gathering zones. These spaces are thoughtfully designed to transition smoothly from indoor areas to lush outdoor gardens, enhancing the communal feel while providing seclusion.

Maximizing Natural Light and Ventilation
The residence is laid out to capture the essence of integrated outdoor living, with living rooms and kitchens positioned to open directly into courtyard spaces. This layout not only allows for an abundance of natural light but also facilitates excellent air circulation, creating a living environment that is naturally cooler and well-lit.

Sustainability and Local Integration
Use of Local Materials
The material palette is a homage to Tiptur’s local resources, featuring white-washed walls for brightness and heat reflection, raw concrete slabs for modern minimalism, and the distinctive black granite. These materials are not only sustainable but also resonate with the regional aesthetic, ensuring the residence blends seamlessly with its cultural and environmental backdrop.

Landscape and Community Connection
The integration of multiple green spaces, including a kitchen garden and a double-height green court, reflects a deep respect for nature and local gardening traditions. These elements foster a connection to the earth and community, aligning with the architects’ vision of creating spaces that are as socially vibrant as they are serene.

A Benchmark for Future Developments
In Between Gardens Residence by A Threshold sets a new standard for integrated outdoor living design in Tiptur. It showcases how architecture can transcend traditional forms to embrace and enhance the natural environment, creating spaces that are not only architecturally impressive but also deeply rooted in local traditions and sustainable practices.
