Design Inspiration and Concept

The design of the Jack Le Coq Restaurant was driven by the creative direction of restaurant owner Jack Gaspo. Drawing inspiration from the classic diners of the 1950s, Gaspo envisioned an updated, colorful environment that would defy traditional diner aesthetics. XY Contemporary’s approach was to combine playful modern design features with retro elements, creating a truly distinctive space. This design concept was inspired by an "adult Candyland" experience, intended to uplift diners post-COVID, bringing an air of joy and vibrancy back into the restaurant scene after the "dark times."

The design team’s main objective was to craft an environment where both dining room aesthetics and exterior architecture offered an equal level of enjoyment. The playful and dynamic interior was designed to be equally engaging for those passing by the restaurant facade as it was for those dining inside. The bright colors, fun shapes, and quirky furniture pieces transform an ordinary strip mall restaurant into a memorable dining destination.

Individuality in Every Space

One of the key design challenges for XY Contemporary was to break free from the restaurant chain feeling. While uniformity across locations is often a hallmark of franchise design, the team aimed to offer individuality in each restaurant, balancing the need for consistency with creativity. Custom light fixtures, colorful furniture, and distinct design features vary from one location to another, making each Jack Le Coq Restaurant unique.

Furniture design and décor were carefully selected to ensure a playful yet sophisticated atmosphere. Colorful chairs, geometric lighting designs, and custom-made furniture pieces were incorporated to bring personality into the space. These elements help create a distinctive, visually engaging environment that resonates with both regular customers and first-time diners.

Functional and Aesthetic Design Details

XY Contemporary’s design philosophy goes beyond aesthetics, incorporating thoughtful functionality throughout. The restaurant layout was meticulously planned to enhance both staff efficiency and customer enjoyment. Clever use of retro-looking mirrors and ergonomic design elements allows for optimal staff workflow, eliminating awkward corners and improving sightlines within the restaurant. Every aspect of the design was purposefully crafted to provide a seamless, enjoyable experience for both employees and diners.

The integration of lighting and decorative ornaments further enhances the space’s inviting atmosphere. LED lighting, carefully placed to highlight key design elements, adds warmth and character to the dining area. The floor plan incorporates spacious seating arrangements that encourage communal dining while maintaining a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
