What was the concept behind the project?

After the great fire in 1871, Chicago was called “The White City”, because of the buildings that were built. But later, Chicago became a city of colour. Proof for that is that the first TV station in colour was broadcasted in this city in 1956. That’s also where does SMPTE colour bar came from, and from there the concept of a project. Exploring the meanings of colours and popular forms of art of Chicago made connection between each other and formed a concept.

What was the intent behind the organization of elements across various levels (Architectural, Site, Urban)?

The best example for that is a "Light blue zone" of a project, where denivelation gives us different experiences of a space by waking up our feelings. Also, the height isn't constant, because the idea was to make the visitor look at the garden from different perpsectives. That also makes an effect to our feelings and senses and perception of a space.

How many iterations were tried to arrive at the final outcome?

First of them was connected to a form of a project, the other were about types of art and activities that are happening, the next one was the previous two and the atmosphere that's happening inside, making right combination of all of these factors. After all of this programme issues, the last one was the aesthetic. How does fully coloured space communicate with a person in it? Will the zones be fully coloured or just some segments of them? What came after that is a project that is not fully coloured - just it's hallaway which navigates, and the zones that are given to artists to transform them in the way they find inspiring, just with some segments that accentuate the presence of the colour of a zone.

Which methods of design investigation?

The most important method was researching meanings of colours, the effects they make to a person in space and the effects they make in art. So, the idea while coming into this school is going to the reception, taking a brochure which explains every colour and going through a hallaway and realizing in which zone you are by the sense you have and by the colour you have stepped on.

How was the programme condensed into final?

After all of the iterations, the final project seemed as the best answer to all of the conditions that have been set. Making perspective views and giving a theme and activities to a space fullfiled the expectation.

What/How were the materials chosen?

The idea was to make a space that could easily transform and be used to another function. Scaffolding was a great answer to that condition, because in the same time it could be used as a stage, ladder, creeper rod, place for seats, fence...

How was a specific objective attempted to be met?

The media as a new form of art, colours as a medium that is present in any form of art (literature, music, painting...), nature that gives a sense comfort - all of them connected into where good answer to a specific objective.

What is the expansion plan of the project?

Because the main material that was used is scaffolding which could easily transform, could expand the project in the height, for the form of arts that need that - like aerilists or artists of "Heaven graffiti" (which is a popular graffiti style in Chicago). Also, because of the connection with nature, in some moment the scaffoldin structure could be moved to a park. In the other way, it colud to a bigger stage for concerts that colud be organized on the parking site in the near.

How will the project transform with the passing time?

Because of the some similar meanings of colour, some zones will maybe join into one, or mix some of their part for a certain reason.
