Gentle Care
More than a Clinic
Interior design is a powerful tool to help create the right atmosphere and mood. In a dental clinic, where patients may be feeling nervous, fearful or anxious, interior design can use intelligent mood directors to encourage feelings of calm. It is also important for patients to feel they are in a place that is clean, bright, modern and authoritative, so that they can relax and place their trust.
In addition, it is vital to make a dental clinic efficient as a workplace. The best dental surgery design ideas take into account practical considerations such as room for dental equipment and storage, efficient workflow (so dental practitioners have their lives made easier by the clinic layout) and dental clinic design standards.
Location
The clinic is located in Roushdy area, Alexandria, Egypt. It is located in a high density neighborhood that has more than 100 units overlooking the tram station. The plot is of a rectangular shape with area about 40 square meter with one main entrance.
Concept
The concept of the design of the clinic is to be a comfortable space that is functional with a high level of technology. This is based using different colors as well as soft music which can make the dentists’ work easier. Colors are very important to call the attention of the patients. Every color has a different feeling. Therefore, each zone is designed to give the feeling of calming, confidence, trust and happiness.
- Beige for calming and relaxing.
- Orange for enthusiasm, attraction, happiness and excitement.
- Grayish green for refreshment, trustworthy and coolness
- Sky blue for relaxing and tranquility
- Dark blue for calming and spirituality
Effective and Functional Floor Plan
There is a balance between efficient traffic flow and comfortable movement between work zones for both staff and patients from public to private spaces. The design incorporates the principles of architectural design, clinical function, technology integration and ergonomic design. These elements work together to produce a balanced, functional well-designed practice that effectively meets the needs of the patients.
The clinic is divided in two main zones contains:
- Public Zone: (a reception area for patients to wait and a toilet)
where patients are greeted, business functions take place, check in and out.
- Clinical Zone: (a dental room and a surgical suite)
where treatment is provided and supported, consisting of operations, consultation, sterilization and laboratory.
- Team Zone: (a service area for changing and a toilet)
where staff can decompress and discharge.
Updated Machines and Equipments
Using up-to-date technology not only improves the overall proficiency of the practice, but also communicates to patients that they will receive the utmost care.
Interior (Flooring finishing and materials used):
There are different finishing materials used in the clinic. For flooring finishes, calacatta gold marble was used in the reception area to widen the feeling of the space. However, wood planks were used to cover the dental and surgical area to give the feeling of comfort and also for insulation of sound coming from the equipment’s used.
Also paints of the wall are of bright hue of blue (especially in the dentist) office where patients will be treated), this will help them to stay clam through the sometimes of uncomfortable practice of oral hygiene treatments and generate a positive overall experience for them.
Lighting
Lighting is a good tool to create an inviting environment. Lighting in a dental clinic provides good vision for the dentist besides that the patient should feel comfortable. A patient who goes to a dentist may be afraid of treatment and may be nervous. Thus, light in a dental clinic is used in the best way in order to relieve the patient, improve the confidence of the patient and calm the patient. Lighting is divided into two categories as general lighting and task lighting.
- General lighting is provided by placing the sufficient number of ceiling recessed lights. In addition to that, using a downlight in the reception area create the unique lighting effect. It is also important that the lighting is homogeneous.
- Operation light is arranged at different levels, it is designed to be movable in every angle, heat dissipation is as much as lower otherwise the patient or the dentist can be disturbed.
In this way, the physical environment of the clinic can communicate the level of excellence of the practice, with professional current practice designs that help to assure patients’ confidence in the dentist ability.
