Architectural Concept and Design Approach

The site's existing structure was a temporary facility with a large umbrella serving as an après-ski bar. Recognizing the need for a more permanent yet visually unobtrusive structure, the architects designed a geometric, rock-like form. The façade’s orientation directly responds to the surrounding views, maximizing openness toward the spectacular alpine scenery. The result is a bold yet harmonious intervention that merges modern aesthetics with the rugged mountain environment.

Structural Innovation and Glass Façade

A key feature of the Eagle Mountain Top Restaurant is its extensive use of glass, ensuring uninterrupted views of the surrounding peaks. The main elevations reach nearly six meters in height, creating an immersive dining experience. The remaining façade is also composed of glass, reinforcing the feeling of openness. Given the tight construction timeline from December 2019 to December 2020, a precise 3D BIM model was essential for coordinating the complex structure and façade elements, ensuring timely completion.

Interior Design and Warm Material Palette

Inside, the restaurant balances modernity with warmth. Large visible CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) beams define the space, working in tandem with CLT ceiling slabs to create a cozy yet dramatic atmosphere. The beams form a star-like pattern, offering a dynamic ceiling design that shifts in perception as guests move through the space. Between these beams, perforated timber acoustic panels conceal ventilation systems and electrical installations, maintaining a clean aesthetic.

A distinctive design element is the custom-made pendant lighting, inspired by birds in flight. These lights, crafted from compressed felt, evoke a flock of birds soaring through the space, reinforcing the restaurant’s connection to its alpine setting. Structural CLT columns lean inwards at various angles, forming a rhythmic grid while supporting the façade.

The bar area is defined by a series of steel frames embedded within cascading timber panels. A 15-meter-long counter, clad in backlit stone plates, acts as a focal point. The main guestroom mirrors this aesthetic, with stone plates precisely carved to resemble the mountain range. Custom oak tables and black leather-covered benches align with the structural grid, ensuring seamless integration of form and function.

Outdoor Terrace and "Eagle Fly-In"

Beyond the main dining area, the restaurant extends to a vast outdoor terrace accommodating 200 guests. Designed to withstand the region’s harsh winter conditions, the terrace flooring consists of prefabricated heated concrete plates, preventing ice buildup. The stainless steel railing structure, equipped with nearly invisible metal netting, preserves the uninterrupted alpine views.

One of the most distinctive features of the restaurant is the "Eagle Fly-In." Located at the lower part of the building, this innovative space allows skiers to grab snacks and drinks without unstrapping their ski gear. This seamless integration of architecture and user experience makes the restaurant a functional and engaging part of the skiing environment.
