Place des États-Unis Residential Apartment by SELA.ARCH: Timeless Parisian Elegance Meets Contemporary Design
Place des États-Unis Apartment by SELA.ARCH blends Haussmannian elegance with modern minimalism, featuring natural materials, refined craftsmanship, and timeless Parisian interiors.
Located in the heart of Paris, the Place des États-Unis Residential Apartment by SELA.ARCH is a masterclass in refined residential architecture. Completed in 2025, this 100 m² apartment seamlessly blends the historic elegance of Haussmannian architecture with a modern, minimalist aesthetic. The project demonstrates how contemporary design can complement classical urban fabric while prioritizing comfort, functionality, and material integrity.

A Thoughtful Design Concept
The client envisioned a home that balances warmth and structure, subtlety and intention—a space where tactile experiences and clarity of form take precedence. From the outset, SELA.ARCH approached the project with a philosophy of restraint and coherence. The design does not compete with the building’s classical bones; instead, it brings calm, precision, and modern rhythm to its interiors.

Material Palette and Atmosphere
Central to the design is a carefully curated material palette that evokes serenity and timelessness. Light oak, travertine, and soft textiles create a visually quiet environment, aging gracefully while maintaining sophistication. Sandy tones, mineral textures, and natural light ensure a warm, inviting ambiance that flows throughout the apartment. The thoughtful selection of materials enhances spatial continuity and emphasizes the subtle beauty of everyday living.

Spatial Planning and Flow
The apartment’s plan was meticulously reconfigured to optimize circulation and functionality. Distinct yet connected living areas provide a sense of openness while maintaining privacy. The living room, a focal point of the design, features a custom monolithic sofa flanked by travertine side units, echoing the geometric language woven throughout the space. Integrated storage and shelving are seamlessly incorporated, balancing aesthetics and utility while concealing daily life.
One of the project’s greatest challenges was integrating modern interventions into a historic Parisian context without disrupting the classical rhythm. Instead of restoring traditional ornamental details, SELA.ARCH reinterpreted luxury through proportion, balance, and rhythm, achieving a sophisticated spatial dialogue that feels both contemporary and timeless.

Craftsmanship and Construction
Construction relied on a close collaboration between design and craftsmanship. Travertine elements were cut, honed, and installed as structural gestures, becoming integral to the apartment’s architecture rather than serving as mere decoration. Custom furniture and joinery were fabricated to exact tolerances, ensuring seamless transitions between materials. Every detail was executed with precision, reflecting a commitment to quality, longevity, and intentionality.

A Home Rooted in Timelessness
Ultimately, the Place des États-Unis apartment is a celebration of timeless residential design. It emphasizes quietude, clarity, and the enduring beauty of natural materials. This domestic space does not impose itself on its inhabitants; instead, it reveals the poetry of everyday life, offering comfort, sophistication, and a lived-in simplicity that feels effortlessly elegant.
