Warm Nest Healthcare Center by Ark-shelter + ARCHEKTA
Warm Nest Healthcare Center in Belgium provides restorative, patient-focused design with natural light, flexible spaces, and therapeutic architecture for healing and comfort.
Located in Knokke-Heist, Belgium, the Warm Nest Healthcare Center is an innovative Maggie Care-inspired facility designed by Ark-shelter in collaboration with ARCHEKTA. Completed in 2021, this 337 m² healthcare center prioritizes mental well-being, restorative design, and patient comfort, creating a nurturing environment for patients and their families.

The architectural concept is grounded in the philosophy of a "warm nest," providing a safe, welcoming, and restorative environment. Inspired by Maggie Care centers worldwide, the design focuses on human-centered UX principles and neuroscience-informed approaches. Every element addresses the physical, physiological, psychological, and social needs of users, offering moments of comfort, reflection, and support throughout the healing journey.

The building features soft ramps, protected entrances, and expansive windows, ensuring abundant natural light and visual access to nature. Spaces are designed to accommodate diverse needs, including therapy rooms, group session areas, dining spaces, and private nooks for relaxation and personal reflection. The interiors use warm wood finishes, indirect lighting, and flexible furniture arrangements, creating a homely and non-clinical atmosphere.

Outdoor spaces, including a serene courtyard and terraces, integrate greenery and protection from wind, promoting a connection to nature and providing a sense of calm. Architectural elements, such as modular construction grids, translucent atriums, and a fireplace gathering area, support both privacy and social interaction. The center's design emphasizes true sustainability, ensuring minimal negative impact on future users while promoting restorative experiences.

Through careful planning, the Warm Nest Healthcare Center achieves a balance of functionality, aesthetic warmth, and holistic patient care, making it a benchmark in contemporary healthcare architecture.
