Shade for Culture is a concept of cultural centre fourty kilometers away from city of Marrakech. The idea of the design was to connect a typical dwelling in the desert - tent, the self-shading effect of a cactus and windcatcher towers. The design is made of ecological and sustainable materials and uses one of the oldest construction methods - rammed earth.

Choosing arid climate and Following Biomimetic design, we came to across a plant that lives in the Namibia desert, Welwitschia which is extremely sustainable in Arid areas and lives about 1000 to 1500 years. The unusual form of this plant keeps the soil under the plant cool and moist. The thick leaves lay on the sand surface and prevent wind erosion aswell.

The cultural center, designed as a meeting point for the world and Marrakech, shows an example of a settlement specific to its location by playing with the slopes of the land. The center offers users the opportunity to experience the oasis in different ways.
