Leisure Taiaçu: A Rural Architectural Retreat by Estúdio Kaique Xavier + Pedrazzoli Arquitetura

Leisure Taiaçu, designed by Estúdio Kaique Xavier and Pedrazzoli Arquitetura, redefines rural leisure spaces with a contemporary approach. Located in the serene countryside of Taiaçu, São Paulo, the project integrates modern architectural elements into a rustic setting, creating a space that balances functionality, aesthetics, and the natural environment. With a focus on fostering connections and visual interactions with the surrounding landscape, this 280 m² leisure area serves as an ideal gathering spot for family and friends.

Site and Layout

Positioned on a compact 10 x 14-meter plot, the leisure area is built on two levels to optimize space utilization and functionality. The lower floor houses a wine cellar and parking lot, providing a warm and inviting entrance. The upper floor is the centerpiece, offering expansive views of the surrounding countryside. By situating the structure at the highest elevation, the design maximizes its relationship with the adjacent open fields, creating a seamless visual dialogue with the landscape.

Design Concept and Materials

The heart of the design is a dramatic 8-meter-wide opening that frames the lush green fields and crops, serving as a living canvas for the rural setting. This large axis not only invites natural light but also establishes a direct visual connection with the environment. Two diagonal walls intersect the building perpendicularly, defining functional zones while directing the user’s gaze toward specific landscape features.

The use of Pedra Moledo for the inclined wall adds a raw, earthy texture that contrasts beautifully with the light Cedrinho wood ceiling, which appears to float above it. This juxtaposition of materials emphasizes the balance between solidity and lightness, a recurring theme throughout the project.

Functional Zoning

The layout is organized around two main elements: the inclined stone wall and the wooden island. These architectural features create a natural division between the living and support areas, enhancing the spatial flow. The wall houses essential infrastructure for the bathrooms while subtly breaking the rigid boundaries of the structure. The wooden island complements this design by offering a central hub for culinary and social activities, aligning seamlessly with the wall’s orientation.
