Completed in 2023, the design of the campus focuses on creating a stage-like atmosphere where students are encouraged to take center stage in their academic and social lives.

Design Concept: A Stage for Student Life

The project reimagines the conventional campus layout by introducing a floating design with the second floor serving as the focal point. This innovative approach allows for an expansive view of the surrounding environment, particularly the adjacent IKE·SUNPARK, a disaster prevention park that adds a sense of openness and tranquility to the academic setting. The idea behind the design is to preserve the academic atmosphere while integrating the park's lush greenery into the campus.

The second floor features an International Deck, which is accessible from all four sides via outdoor staircases. This open, elevated platform creates a central gathering space for students, promoting interaction and engagement. The volume of the building is designed with pilotis, creating an expansive plaza below and connecting the campus to the park. The stepping back of the high-rise volume from the park enhances the sense of openness while providing students with a peaceful, elevated space to study, socialize, and reflect.

Architecture and Materiality: Creating a Timeless, Elegant Aesthetic

The architectural design of the Tokyo International University campus combines modern elements with a timeless, dignified appearance. The exterior of the building is clad in PC panels faced with white granite, giving the structure a long-lasting and sophisticated look. This material choice ensures durability while maintaining an elegant aesthetic.

At the same time, the design incorporates sharp detailing, creating a floating effect that gives the campus a light and airy feel. The soffit of the low-level eaves is made of custom-designed silver-colored aluminum panels, creating a dynamic interplay between the students’ reflections and the surrounding trees in the park. This choice of materials not only enhances the visual appeal but also provides a sense of connection between the building and the natural environment.

Sustainability and Community Integration
