Around the Corner – Sustainable Student Housing in Berlin by Sehw Architektur
"Around the Corner" by Sehw Architektur is a sustainable student housing project in Berlin, featuring modern design, energy efficiency, and community spaces.
Affordable Student Living in Berlin's Up-and-Coming District
As student housing in Berlin becomes increasingly unaffordable, new developments in emerging districts play a crucial role in providing accessible living spaces. The recently completed "Around the Corner" student apartment building in Oberschöneweide, Berlin, is a response to this growing demand. Designed by Sehw Architektur, this 4,478 m² residential complex consists of 159 modern student apartments. Developed for the city-owned housing company Berlinovo, the project was part of a framework agreement promoting innovative, prefabricated residential solutions.

Innovative Architectural Design and Sustainable Urban Development
The structure serves as a keystone within the existing urban block, featuring a monolithic design that seamlessly blends walls and sloping roofs. The façade’s dynamic composition, created by a subtle horizontal shift of window rows, enhances the building's contemporary aesthetic. A strategic two-tone color scheme further divides the volume, integrating the building into its surroundings while adding visual depth.
The project contributes to Berlin’s urban renewal by promoting sustainable construction methods. Large windows and energy-efficient designs ensure ample daylight penetration, reducing artificial lighting needs and enhancing energy efficiency.

Community-Oriented Spaces and Smart Living Concepts
Designed to foster a sense of community, the shared living spaces feature spacious eat-in kitchens, promoting interaction among residents. The compact yet open-layout apartments offer functional and comfortable student housing, optimized for modern urban lifestyles.
According to Prof. Xaver Egger, founder of Sehw Architektur, “This building embodies our vision of a modern and functional mix of apartments for students. Sehw is contributing to the sustainable transformation of the district in a prominent location.”

Redefining Student Housing in Berlin
With its strategic location, innovative modular construction, and community-driven design, the "Around the Corner" student residence is a benchmark for sustainable and affordable housing in Berlin. It not only meets the increasing demand for high-quality student accommodations but also contributes to the revitalization of Oberschöneweide.
