ARTISAN FAIR
Artisan's Fair: Handcrafted with Love
The challenge of the Competition is about creating a design setting for an Artisanal Marketplace that functions only for a limited amount of time at regular intervals.
The concept of Market makes us imagine a space of congregation and social activity, simultaneously promoting the economic activity in this space. We have also through our design tried to envisage a space which is multi-functional and agile, giving flexible solutions to the usage of the same space in different time duration. The design allows for a collapsible roof made of Bamboo mat woven by hand and underlined with a layer of recycled clothes , making it a completely handmade and recyclable.
The arrangement of the Artisanal spaces or cubicles is made to adapt to various situations and is upgradable to any material addition at a later stage as well. The flexible design module also allows for the storage and seating of the artisan in the pod designed exclusively for them.
The site of Belmore park is adjacent to Eddy Avenue and enjoys the prime locational advantages. The site plan takes advantage of this accessibility and pedestrian flow- and introduces the concept of pavegen : kinesthetic tiles which store energy through the movement of pedestrians on it and then this energy can be converted to sustain the lighting of this space as well as provide for site furniture with inbuilt charging stations for the users. The design also looks into the user requirements and deals with integration of the contours on site as well as existing landscape features on site.
The design inculcates Handmade with Love as a concept for its planning of the various artisanal pods and wishes the global encouragement of the handmade produce and sustainable products.
