C-H House by Cavagnaro Rojo Arquitectos – Coastal Chilean Timber Residence with Ocean Views
C-H House in Tunquén, Chile, features a timber and steel coastal design with central patio, skylight, panoramic ocean views, and sustainable construction.
Located in the picturesque coastal town of Tunquén in Chile’s Fifth Region, the C-H House by Cavagnaro Rojo Arquitectos is a striking example of contemporary residential architecture that harmoniously blends with its natural surroundings. Completed in 2023, this 170 m² timber home is designed to maximize ocean views while creating a comfortable, functional living environment.

Coastal-Oriented Design
The house sits on a moderately sloping plot overlooking the Pacific Ocean, allowing its main living areas, including the living room, kitchen, and master bedroom, to enjoy uninterrupted sea views. The architects employed a 15 x 15-meter regular floor plan, optimizing spatial organization and sightlines toward the coast. The layout creates a strong connection between interior and exterior spaces, emphasizing the house’s integration with its coastal environment.

Central Patio and Natural Light
A defining feature of the C-H House is its interior central patio, carefully sheltered from southern winds. Positioned adjacent to the main entrance, this patio acts as both a natural extension of the living spaces and a serene outdoor retreat. A large transparent skylight on the eastern façade floods the interior with morning sunlight, enhancing the bright and airy atmosphere. This permeability ensures uninterrupted ocean views along the central axis, connecting the indoors with the coastal landscape.

Sustainable Timber and Efficient Construction
Constructed entirely from impregnated and natural radiata pine with steel reinforcements, the C-H House emphasizes simplicity, durability, and sustainability. The modular dimensions were strategically designed to align with commercial timber sizes, minimizing material waste and optimizing construction costs. This timber residential architecture approach showcases the potential of wood in contemporary home design while ensuring environmental responsibility.

Interior Design and Spatial Harmony
Inside, exposed timber beams and wooden finishes create a warm, inviting atmosphere that complements the surrounding natural scenery. The open-plan living and dining areas, along with the thoughtfully arranged kitchen, prioritize functionality without compromising aesthetic appeal. Every detail, from the skylight placement to the interior patio, reinforces the house’s connection to nature, light, and the ocean.
The C-H House is a compelling example of modern coastal residential architecture in Chile, demonstrating how thoughtful planning, sustainable materials, and careful site integration can create a home that is both functional and visually stunning. With its central patio, panoramic ocean views, and efficient timber construction, this project reflects Cavagnaro Rojo Arquitectos’ expertise in designing harmonious, nature-integrated residences.
