1. Project Concept :

- Eco-friendly Design: Recycled cacao husks are utilized as resources, and cooling fog and Scandiamos systems are installed to regulate temperature and humidity.

- Mayan Civilization Inspiration: The exterior wall is made from oyster shell mortar, and the roof features a spiral design inspired by Mayan architecture.

- Connection with Nature: The design respects the cacao tree and its surrounding nature, creating a space that harmonizes with the environment based on the belief of interconnectedness between nature and humans in Mayan culture.

2. Design Investigation Methods :

- Connecting with Nature: Reflects the Mayan philosophy that nature and humans are deeply interconnected, honoring the cacao tree and its environment.

- Circular Patterns of Cacao: Cacao grows in circular or spiral patterns, which are reflected in the resort’s design, symbolizing vitality and the flow of nature.

- Sacred Space: Inspired by the central squares of Mayan culture, the design features a large open space dedicated to cacao, emphasizing its sacredness and cultural significance.

3. Program Summary :

- First Floor: Accommodations, restaurant (buffet), lobby, office, staff restaurant (accessible to outsiders), staff lounge, museum, yoga and spa areas, cacao farm, bio tower, tasting room, processing plant, performance waiting room, dining area, stage, additional accommodations.

- Second Floor: Additional accommodations, cafeteria (serving processed cacao), workshop, multi-purpose outdoor space, museum.

4. Material Selection :

- Use of Local Materials: Due to the lack of limestone, oyster shell mortar and calcined clay bricks are used, reducing environmental impact and ensuring durability.

- Respect for Mayan Architecture: The use of local materials honors traditional Mayan building techniques while promoting sustainability.

5. Transformation Over Time :

- Renewable Energy Integration: The resort will evolve to incorporate renewable energy systems using discarded cacao husks, becoming a more eco-friendly space.

- Environmental Adaptation: The cooling fog and Scandiamos systems, along with renewable energy solutions, will ensure the resort remains sustainable and responsive to environmental changes over time.

This project integrates sustainability, cultural value, and eco-conscious design to create a space that fosters a deep connection with nature and honors the traditions of the Mayan civilization.
