Furnish Studio by 11.29 Studio – Sustainable Art Space in Rayong, Thailand
Furnish Studio in Rayong, Thailand transforms industrial waste into a sustainable, ventilated art studio using bamboo and concrete spacers.
Located in Rayong, Thailand, Furnish Studio by 11.29 Studio transforms an unusable concrete spacer site into a functional, ventilated, and inspiring art studio, workshop, and gallery. Owned by renowned young Thai artist Bo Puntita, the studio spans 144 m² and was completed in 2023. The project exemplifies thoughtful design that balances sustainability, material innovation, and artistic functionality.

The design concept emphasizes ventilation, open spaces, and natural lighting, essential for an oil painting studio. Strategically situated near a northeastern pond, the site benefits from cool breezes and a surrounding agricultural landscape, providing a serene contrast to Rayong’s industrial zones. This inspired the architects to explore adaptive reuse, turning industrial waste into meaningful architectural elements.

A key feature of the studio is its use of concrete spacers, leftover products from concrete testing, combined with bamboo battens to form the building’s skin. This approach allows wind circulation, light filtration, and flexible interior conditions, demonstrating that even industrial byproducts can achieve new life. The circular swing bamboo battens allow the artist to adjust light density and airflow, minimizing reliance on air conditioning, lowering energy consumption, and supporting environmentally conscious design.

By integrating local materials, low-energy solutions, and circular design principles, Furnish Studio reduces transportation emissions, construction waste, and overall environmental impact. The studio not only serves the artist’s creative needs but also promotes sustainability, cost-efficiency, and social responsibility, showcasing how architecture can harmonize with both nature and community.
