About Discussions Projects11 Journals5 Competitions1

Carceral environments encompass the design and planning of spaces related to incarceration, detention, and confinement. This includes both the physical infrastructure of prisons and broader examinations of how architecture shapes the experience of restricted spaces and institutional control.

The community explores innovative prison design strategies incorporating biophilic principles, sustainable systems, and modular construction methods. Members also investigate conceptual frameworks that reimagine incarceration through architectural intervention, alternative models, and metaphorical approaches to reformation and community within carceral contexts.

THE CYCLONE

Cyclone is a strong storm of rapidly rotating winds. It was used as a metaphor to describe the idea of cycle in our design. This cycle includes adaptation, correction and rehabilitation steps. Prisoners move on to the next step according to their progress, and each step provides more environmental interaction than the previous one.

Screen

The prison is designed to restore the man's Golden Light (i.e. personal restraint). Man has been darkened by the power of the Screen, and must learn to restore his Golden Light, by passing through the Filter, Reform, and Reflect Stages; creating a slowed-down version of the Screen. The prison does not absorb light like the Screen, rather, it restores Light.

HOT SPOT

Prisons should not be isolated island, not be abandoned area, not be unfriendly cold. Prisons should be HOT SPOT, which is integrated with urban fabric and life .It can be used as the public space and part of urban member. Spot sometimes is not a nice place, but if we are to give enough care, and it will be a hot spot, which is the most fancy and sexy place.

Beyond Bars

Beyond Bars is the name for our correctional facility. Our motto is to blur the boundaries between nature and architecture. This is done by fusing composite typology with topography. Our rehabilitation vision consists of cultivating, collaborating, and conditioning through the landscape of the project.

A Wall to live in

A Wall to live in consist in designing an innovative prison for new types of criminals. It is based on the themes of modularity, nature and human being. With crimes like the non-violent ones the rehabilitation is a fundamental part of the judgment and it's exactly this aspect that this project tend to improve.

The Studio for Redemption

Different from normal violent crimes, some criminals are using their minds instead of muscles or skills to get illegal intersts. Future prisons have to handle those guys in some creative ways. By uniting prisoners with groups, it is practically possible to have them make contributions to the society wtih their intelligence.

How much is a "like" worth?

The tower type is valid for office buildings in which people as a general rule enter and leave at the same time and perform the same job. A number of individual or group offices, co-working or other variants are always present. So let's try this type for a prison. They are equal cells (offices) with spaces for co-working (workshops, communication..)
