Modern Cabin

A modern cabin is a small, typically detached dwelling built for seasonal or occasional use, often in forest, lakeside or mountain settings. Designers working in this typology balance minimal footprint, direct connection to landscape, and the practical demands of remote or weather-exposed sites. Contemporary examples often adopt clean geometries, large glazed openings, and materials such as timber, weathered steel and concrete.

Members on uni.xyz share work that examines how these buildings respond to terrain, orientation and light, including skylight strategies, elevated siting above towns, and lakeside and forest retreats. Submissions range from built projects by established practices to speculative and conceptual cabin designs.
