Modern Interiors

Modern interiors cover the design of living and working spaces with an emphasis on clean forms, considered materials, and layouts suited to contemporary life. The field spans furniture and lighting at the scale of single objects through to the organization of entire apartments and houses. Designers working in this area often balance new construction with the adaptation of existing buildings.

Community work under this topic includes lighting fixtures built from paper and other light materials, residential projects in Barcelona, Raleigh, and Tasmania, and a renovation of a historic villa on Lake Como. Taken together, the submissions show how contemporary interiors respond to climate, regional context, and existing architecture.
