Drift: Parametric Architecture Installation
Transforming landscapes with parametric design—where innovation meets nature in seamless architectural harmony, redefining spatial experiences.
Using a combination of analog and digital methods, we have created an innovative parametric architecture tunnel that follows the natural topography of the landscape. This structure is an evolving archway, continuously transforming from one end to the other. The organic form of this installation is derived from a singular rib design, repeated and altered to produce a flowing spatial experience that seamlessly integrates with its environment. The varying curvature and rhythmic undulations create a dynamic interaction with light and shadow, enhancing the immersive experience for visitors.

Our primary focus was to create a striking architectural landmark—a beacon for the university community that invites engagement and exploration. Beyond being a visual spectacle, Drift serves as an experiential passage, encouraging users to interact with its sculptural presence.
The project "Drift", conceptualized by Kim Hagan, was a shortlisted entry in Architecture on the Clock, showcasing the potential of parametric design in contemporary installations. The careful consideration of materiality and structural efficiency ensures that Drift is not only aesthetically compelling but also durable and sustainable. The fusion of computational design with craftsmanship exemplifies the advancements in modern architecture and construction techniques.

By employing cutting-edge fabrication technology, this project highlights the synergy between digital precision and organic forms. The process of parametric modeling allowed for extensive experimentation with form and proportion, leading to a final design that balances fluidity with stability. Each rib contributes to the larger composition, fostering a sense of continuity and movement throughout the space. The result is an architectural installation that embodies the essence of parametric design, where structure and sculpture coexist harmoniously.
