Carabanchel, Madrid - In a captivating fusion of artistry and design, acclaimed artists Bruno del Giúdice and Candela Sotos have transformed a former carpentry workshop into a vibrant art and screen-printing studio named La Calor. Nestled between the neighbourhoods of Opañel and Comillas, this innovative space breathes new life into the local creative scene, offering a haven for artistic expression and collaboration.
With a sprawling expanse spanning 90 square meters, La Calor boasts an expansive open workspace complemented by a charming 120 square meter back garden. A series of visionary renovations have revitalized the premises, creating an environment that seamlessly connects the interior and exterior spaces while maximizing natural lighting and minimizing reliance on electrical illumination during the day.
The first notable transformation involved opening the rear façade, demolishing a section and replacing it with a large double door. This architectural feat not only creates a fluid relationship between the studio and the garden but also floods the workspace with an abundance of natural light, fostering an inspiring atmosphere for creativity to flourish.
Further reimagining the studio's layout, a new steel and wood structure was meticulously assembled to introduce an upper floor, housing an independent studio space. In place of the old linear staircase, a sleek spiral staircase was installed, optimizing the ground floor's functionality and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal.
The complete overhaul of the studio's installations was a crucial step in ensuring a seamless workflow. Modernizing the space while preserving its industrial charm, the refurbishment cleverly integrated storage areas for frames, tools, and graphic work, as well as conveniently positioned toilets and a kitchen. By efficiently integrating these elements into the workshop's intermediate area, the screen-printing machinery remains readily accessible, promoting a dynamic and flexible creative environment.
La Calor's screen-printing capabilities are truly remarkable, with the machinery capable of accommodating three-by-two-meter frames. This large-format capacity opens up exciting possibilities for artists seeking to push the boundaries of their artistic production. Additionally, the mobile washing cabin and drying rack enhance the studio's adaptability, enabling artists to configure the space according to their unique requirements.
