Introduction

Heal, is an international architecture competition that urged the participants to suggest a design for building a community living for the flood-affected area of Aluva, Kerala, India. It is a peri-urban area that is rebuilding itself after one of the worst floods of the century, which had claimed more than 300 lives. The task was to gather the scattered form of housing and construct one consolidated housing area of 100 houses that work together in the situation of natural calamity. This competition aims at housing ready for post-disaster repercussions and can have a self-built environment for use.

Our system unites the community by the various incremental measure at different levels.

Jury Comments: “Addressing the disaster vulnerability of the site to flooding with surface water management along with the flow of water within riverine systems is the best part of this proposal” “The project carefully suggests a vernacular style of design, taking materials available in the local vicinity and promotes the sense of community living.”

Imagine a tomorrow that builds on the resilience from unpredictability using elements of Nature & the power of regeneration towards a new horizon. ANTI-FRAGILE is a 3 insert approach to celebrate community, instate resilience in structures & thrive in a new habitat.

Jury Comments: “This project has dealt with a pre as well as post-disaster plan for the communities using locally sourced materials which make rebuilding easy. It has described a detailed method for fabrication of their modular community which is buildable in a different location as well.”

By: Omar Andrés Campos Rivera, Maria José Castañeda Valbuena

Team212019 04 15T17 55 000001

Description: People know their environments better than any outsider, so why give them ready-made solutions when we can give them the tools to solve them as they think is best? We aim to provide a Tool Box to deal with flooding that fulfills certain basic requirements so the community builds it on their own, as they like, and assures their identities.

Jury Comments: The project is a perfect utilization of the modular design strategy required for areas struck with a natural calamity. It aims to promote a healthy social system and community living in urban morphology and has targeted three different typologies for it. “
