Project Background

Vision and Challenges

The primary challenge was to optimize a small 50 m² space for a variety of simultaneous uses. The design needed to incorporate bespoke furniture elements that relate to each other and allow for different spatial configurations around a central pillar, which could otherwise have been an obstacle.

Structural Interventions

During the construction process, unforeseen structural problems were discovered, including two metallic pillars hidden in a partition wall. These pillars lacked continuity with the upper floors and covered an existing gap in the premises. The solution involved a structural intervention to clean up and expose the new beam, integrating it seamlessly into the space.

Design and Material Use

Recovery and Reuse

The project uncovered and restored several historical elements, such as plaster moldings and an in situ terrazzo floor hidden under a poor-quality surface. By recycling and reusing these forgotten elements, the design reduces environmental impact and restores the space's cultural roots.
