The Book Room by Studio Infinity: A Thoughtful Library Design in Pune
A sustainable, multi-functional library in Pune by Studio Infinity, featuring natural light, adaptive seating, and eco-friendly materials for community learning.
A Multi-Functional Reading Space Blending Aesthetics & Utility
Located in Pune, India, The Book Room by Studio Infinity is an innovative architectural intervention that transforms a compact, double-height space into a vibrant library and community learning hub. Designed within a parking lot extension, this project is a testament to adaptive reuse, sustainability, and the power of design in fostering knowledge sharing.

Designing for Purpose: A Library for All
The client envisioned an inviting public reading space as an amenity for the larger development. Budget constraints and space limitations were key factors shaping the project, leading the architects to adopt an economical yet creative approach. The result is a multi-functional library that welcomes both adults and children, promoting reading as a communal and engaging activity.

Spatial Planning & Architectural Features
To create a dynamic and adaptable learning environment, Studio Infinity integrated several thoughtful design elements:
- Vaulted Ceilings & Arched Façade – Enhancing volume and architectural character.
- Optimized Natural Lighting – A single full-height glass façade ensures ample daylight, minimizing artificial lighting needs.
- Stepped Amphitheater Seating – Encouraging flexible usage, from quiet reading sessions to interactive discussions.
- Community Reading Table – Designed to foster interaction and shared learning experiences.

Sustainable & Environmentally Responsive Design
A core focus of the design was sustainability. The library maximizes passive cooling with East-West cross ventilation, eliminating reliance on mechanical systems. Locally sourced brick, concrete, and eco-friendly plywood form a responsible material palette, ensuring resource efficiency and minimal waste.
By integrating green elements, such as indoor plants woven into bookshelves, reading tables, and seating, the space achieves a calming, nature-inspired atmosphere that breaks the monotony of traditional furniture arrangements.

Human-Centric Design for an Enriching Reading Experience
Emphasizing warm, earthy tones and textures, the interior design deviates from the usual formal library setup. Every detail prioritizes user comfort, making reading an enjoyable and immersive activity. The thoughtful integration of natural elements, adaptive seating, and ample daylight ensures that The Book Room remains an inspiring space for all.
