Evening Sky Residence: A Modern Vineyard Home by Scott I Edwards Architecture
A serene, modern vineyard home blending warm minimalism, natural materials, and seamless indoor-outdoor living with panoramic views of Oregon’s wine country.
The Evening Sky Residence by Scott I Edwards Architecture is a stunning contemporary vineyard home set in the serene foothills of McMinnville, Oregon. Designed in 2023, this 5,325-square-foot residence sits atop the highest point of a working vineyard, offering sweeping views of the Willamette Valley to the east and the Coastal Mountain Range to the west. Blending natural materials, elegant minimalism, and seamless indoor–outdoor living, the home reflects the clients’ desire for a peaceful, timeless retreat deeply connected to Oregon wine country.

A Home That Emerges From the Vineyard Landscape
Approaching the Evening Sky Residence is a cinematic experience. A winding road climbs gently through towering evergreens until the landscape opens to reveal the cedar-clad home surrounded by vines. The architecture is defined by clean lines, natural textures, and contextual materials, allowing the home to feel both modern and rooted in its surroundings.
Two simple, intersecting single-story volumes make up the structure:
- Main Volume – Includes living spaces and all bedrooms
- Secondary Volume – Houses the garage, gym, and breezeway
A long linear entry path leads visitors toward a floating flat roofline accentuated by clerestory windows. As the vineyard grows, this pathway will eventually become a lush corridor framed by grapevines, immersing guests in the landscape from the first step.

Warm Minimalism Meets Nature-Inspired Design
Inside, the residence opens immediately to breathtaking views through floor-to-ceiling windows. A custom bench overlooks a serene koi pond, creating a moment of calm right at the entry. This threshold divides the home into two distinct wings:
The Active Wing
A bright, open-concept great room combining:
- Living area
- Dining space
- State-of-the-art kitchen
- Covered outdoor patio
With 12-foot ceilings and three glass-lined walls, the space expands visually into the vineyard and hills. A board-formed concrete fireplace anchors one end of the great room, while a sleek kitchen anchors the other. The design showcases a refined material palette of concrete, glass, cedar, and steel, emphasizing horizontal planes and clean geometry.
Concrete floors and cedar ceilings transition effortlessly from interior to exterior, enhancing the home’s strong indoor–outdoor connection—a key element of the clients’ lifestyle.

A Private Retreat: The Quiet Wing
The quiet wing houses the more personal and private spaces:
- Primary suite
- Two guest bedrooms
- Wine cellar
- Office
- Laundry and mudroom
- Access to the gym, breezeway, and garage
All bedrooms face the valley view, while service zones sit on the opposite side, creating privacy and reducing heat gain during hot summer evenings.
The primary suite is a secluded haven featuring natural light, elegant handblown glass pendants, and a spa-inspired bathroom with pebble flooring and a luxurious steam shower.

A Residence Designed for Living With the Land
Every aspect of the Evening Sky Residence reinforces the relationship between architecture, landscape, and the surrounding vineyard. The home feels serene yet purposeful—an environment shaped by nature, crafted with precision, and designed for a lifestyle deeply connected to Oregon’s wine culture.
