Explore the Art of Vinylography this International Music Day: Celebrate the Beauty of Vinyl Records
Discover the Timeless Appeal of Vinyl Records and How Vinylography is Keeping the Tradition Alive

International Music Day, celebrated on October 1st every year, is a reminder of the unique role that music plays in our lives. From creating unforgettable memories to providing solace during tough times, music has the power to evoke strong emotions and bring people together. This year's International Music Day was marked by the opening of a special exhibition titled "Vinylography – Milestones in music history" featuring 50 large-format works by the renowned photo artist Gerd Schaller.

The exhibition is a tribute to the rich history of music and the pivotal role played by vinyl records in shaping the musical landscape. The artworks on display include oversized images of iconic albums and artists such as David Bowie's "Heroes", John Lennon's "Imagine", the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Beatles, Eagles, ACDC, Queen, Michael Jackson, and Prince. Each of these legendary artists has left an indelible mark on music history, and the exhibition is a testament to their enduring legacy.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is a two-and-a-half meter wide and almost two-meter-high picture of David Bowie's "Heroes", capturing the raw energy and emotion of the song. The exhibition also features a separate area dedicated to the Braun PC3 turntable, a design icon created by Wilhelm Wagenfeld in the mid-1950s. Despite being initially mocked as Snow White's coffin, the turntable has become a collector's item and can even be admired in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Through his work, Gerd Schaller has succeeded in capturing the essence of vinyl records and the unique experience of playing them on a turntable. The exhibition provides a nostalgic glimpse into a bygone era, with photographs of vinyl records on turntables, capturing the distinctive groove pattern and the feel of the vinyl.
The exhibition is a celebration of music and its ability to transcend cultural and geographical boundaries. International Music Day was initiated in 1975 by Lord Yehudi Menuhin, former president of the International Music Council (IMC), to promote the ideals of peace and friendship between peoples, exchange of experience and mutual appreciation of their aesthetic values through music. The IMC, founded in 1949 by UNESCO, is the world's largest network of organisations and institutions working in music.
In these times of uncertainty and turmoil, the exhibition serves as a reminder of the unifying power of music and its ability to bring people together. Whether it's a catchy tune from the 1950s or a timeless classic from the 1980s, music has the power to evoke strong emotions and create lasting memories. "Vinylography – Milestones in music history" is a must-see exhibition for all music lovers and anyone who wants to relive the magic of vinyl records.
